We are District 11N United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 48.  We are a group of volunteers whose mission includes, but are not necessarily limited to, offering the public a nationally approved class on boating safety; on the water operations, including search and rescue (SAR), and safety patrols; watch standing via radios, to name a few.

We are very active in conducting boating safety courses in the San Jose area. Public Education (PE) classes are currently being held at the Campbell Community Center at Campbell and Union in Campbell. These meetings are once per week on Tuesday evenings beginning at 6:30 p. m.  In the flotilla, seven members are qualified instructors and there are three instructor aides who are active in the public education program.

We are active in the boat crew patrol program. Currently, there are two surface operational facilities in the flotilla. Members go through rigorous and thorough—at the members own chosen pace training to be certified as crew members and Auxiliary small boat Coxswain.

Other programs we participate in include radio watch standing for the Coast Guard, interaction with the  Marine Safety Office and Auxiliary radio nets,  marine safety patrols, Aids to Navigation (ATON) inspections, and Retail Marine Merchant visitations where we hand out fliers and pamphlets on boating safety.

Our flotilla meets on the second Wednesday of the month, in the Almaden area of the City of San Jose. There are currently 20 members in the Flotilla. The group is culturally diversified, with 30% of the membership belonging to various ethnic cultures.

Another of our main charters is fellowship and so we also meet quarterly for various social functions.
